On June 28, 1970, the Stonewall Riots took place on Christopher Street as a consequence of months of police raiding of the Stonewall Inn, one of the few gay bars in New York at the time.

One year later, the first Pride parade took place on the anniversary of the Stonewall riots.

Today, 47 years later, cities across the world host Pride parades in celebration of LGBTQ+ rights and acceptance. The St. Petersburg Pride parade, celebrated this past week, is Florida’s largest. They had drag star Coco Montrese host a kick-off concert and ended with a Pride street festival this past Sunday. Here is a video recap from Saturday’s parade.
