As the school year is now in full swing and the assignments start piling up, you may feel overwhelmed. Listening to music while studying is said to help you focus and let’s be honest, it’s much more enjoyable than working in complete silence. Here are four genres to study to next time you cram for an exam.
For me, along with many others, classical music is essential for studying. It provides background noise without being too distracting and is a genre many people enjoy. Studies have also proven that listening to classical music while studying helps productivity levels.
2. Pop– within reason
Pop music might not be the wisest choice when studying, but there are exceptions. In the case that classical music is too much a bore, this song might come in handy.
Try Midnight City- M83. The instrumental for this song is upbeat, and its unclear lyrics won’t get stuck in your head.
For those who are more into the underground scene, listening to indie music might be the perfect study companion.
“When I’m studying, I like to listen to relaxing music that’s upbeat. For me, bands like Manchester Orchestra and Still Woozy are my favorite choices,” said Keymara Piquant, a sophomore at USFSP. The Indie genre is known for having many songs that create a calm atmosphere and this song fits right in.
Try Cooks- Still Woozy.
Listening to R&B music while studying is the perfect balance between fun and serious. For those who are more into Hip-Hop, R&B has similar sounds but is a much more study appropriate option.
Try Talk 2 U- Brent Faiyaz. The beat of the song keeps you awake, but won’t cause you to start dancing.
