USFSP held its annual Diwali Celebration in the Ballrooms Tuesday. Diwali, or Deepavali, is a Hindu-originated festival of lights. It’s a five-day-long celebration that coincides with the Indian New Year. Clay lamps – known diyas – are lit to signal the victory of good over evil. The Diwali festival falls on the 15th day of the Hindu month of Kartik. Although the holiday’s exact origins are debated, Diwali can be traced back to ancient India. Today, it’s celebrated around the globe.
