Spring break has come and gone. While hopefully you’re mentally recharged, your wallet may feel empty. Fear not, Florida has many state parks that offer cheap, or free, outdoor fun.There is plenty of adventure to be found right here in Tampa Bay. Hillsborough River State Park is one of Florida’s 175 state parks. It’s easy to spend a day there exploring and getting lost under the trees.

There are seven miles of hiking trails that run over and around the Hillsborough River. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can rent a canoe or kayak and attempt to conquer the class II rapids. Don’t be surprised if you see more than a few lounging alligators along the riverbank.

Bring your bike or rent one from the ranger station and ride along the bike trail. Fishing is also permitted throughout the park, so bring your pole and catch yourself a delicious bass like Napoleon Dynamite. Craving a night under the stars for s’more nature? Campsites are also available to rent at this park. Hillsborough River State Park is open 8 a.m. until sundown seven days a week. Head there for a day of fun and restorative nature. Just don’t forget your sunscreen.
