Sanding Ovations returns to Treasure Island

When sculptors from around the world gather at the beach, the Sanding Ovations Master Cup has arrived once again. This past weekend marked the 9th annual Sanding Ovations Master Cup, held in Treasure Island. Ten sculptors from across the globe gathered at the beach to build the best sand sculptures and compete for awards and cash prizes. The three-day event featured live bands, food vendors and a market of merchants selling their products.

Some artists spent the entire weekend designing their pieces. Upon first glance, the smooth and intricate sculptures look more like stone than sand. People of all ages gathered around to watch as the artists created their work.

“Sharing Knowledge,” pictured above, won first place.

Jonathan (Jobi) Bouchard won first place and the people’s choice award. His sculpture was a mother and a baby, with the mother pouring milk into the baby, a seen in the pictures above.

As long as they remain unharmed, the sculptures will be up until December.
